...for
Clean Power
and
a Clean Planet
You
can help clean up our air, water and food supply and reduce consumption
of coal, oil, gas and uranium by purchasing renewable energy certificates
(or "tags"). Tags make clean energy economically viable today.
A
Green Tag from Maine Interfaith Power & Light pays for the clean
air and other benefits of generating 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity
from wind and solar sources. Every Green Tag keeps 1,400 pounds of carbon
dioxide out of our atmosphere.

How
Do Green Tags Work?
When
you buy Green Tags, you are making a tax-deductible donation to put
more clean power into an electrical grid in the United States, forcing
polluting plants to cut back their output.
You
(or your honoree, if you buy as a gift) will receive an attractive,
personalized certificate acknowledging your donation. In addition, you
will receive a report identifying which facility generated the electricity
represented by your Green Tags. The cost of your Green Tags is fully
tax deductible.
Here's
how Green Tags help create good jobs, protect our environment, improve
our health, and secure our energy independence:
- Clean power generators
invest in and build a wind or solar facility, creating good jobs in
a sustainable industry.
- They sell their
electricity at the market price and begin delivering electricity to
the grid in their area.
- They also sell
a certificate for every 1,000 kilowatt hours they deliver. Green Tags
are based on these certificates.
- The revenue from
selling electricity at market price plus revenue from the sale of
Green Tags allows these green generators to stay in business, despite
their higher operation costs.
- Each kilowatt
hour that a green generator delivers displaces a kilowatt hour from
other generators, many of which burn fossil fuel.
- By reducing the
use of fossil fuel to generate electricity, Green Tags deliver cleaner
air, a healthier environment and greater energy independence for our
country.
